I need somewhere to rant...now
It was dark, quiet... quite an unusual sight in my room since there's almost always someone sleeping, studying, eating, listening to music, doing regular dorm room things right? But it was 8 pm on a Friday night; I realized there was hip-hop class which was probably where Roommate #1 would be and Roommate #2 would probably be in a friend's room at that moment. So, I flipped on the light switch.
Waiting 2 seconds for the very dim light in our room above the door to illuminate about two feet in front of me, I rushed over to turn on my desk lamp (the brightest light in our room) and plug my laptop in so I could hurry and study for my final which was twelve hours from now. Twelve hours may sound like a lot, but for a procrastinator and a sleepy-head, that equivocates to about two to three hours of studying to the devout student. Beside the point, while I was dashing to my lamp I felt my shoe accidentally kick something small and plasticky... the split second after I tripped over something that felt like the trash can. After recovering from the small fall I turned around to see a plastic bottle was what I kicked, and I did trip over our trash can that I emptied two days ago, except now it was OVERFLOWING with trash! Fortunately only a few small things happened to fall out of the amazingly balanced mountain of trash... unfortunately those small things were all used wads of tissue that I ended up picking up.
A few feet away from the trash can was our second garbage can that I converted into a recycle bin for our room because I love our world, even if it does support the lives of people living like pigs (no offense to the animal, the pig). Not to my surprise, that too was reaping a heap of empty water bottles, juice cartons, and metal coffee cans (one of my roommates is a caffeine addict). Balanced atop that pile was a piece of cardboard that I use to ingeniously cover the recycle bin so flies won't get attracted to whatever was in there (we used to have a bad fruitfly problem but once I covered the can up and waited a few days, they left). On top of that cardboard were five to-go boxes from the dining common (all filled with rotting leftovers that smelled like death) and three to-go cups... luckily those were empty.
Still on the floor from the fall, I slowly absorbed the wonderful vision of trash in front of my eyes and the wafting smell of rancid food beneath my nose. AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!! I hoped nobody heard that yell, because recently our Resident Advisor enforced a "quiet policy" for the two weeks of finals and the last thing I wanted was for the RA to come knocking on my room door and dying from the trash odor before she could reprimand me for interrupting others' need for silence. She really is the best RA ever and I want her to be able to survive to take her finals, too.
"I can't believe they did this again," I said under my breath. I could feel my body heating up, I don't know if it was out of anger and frustration or if it was because they left the heat on again and our room heats up really fast. Regardless, I picked myself up from the floor and turned on the only beacon of hope in our room, my lamp. It's the only hope in our room because it illuminates my desk, the only one in our room where you can still see the desk surface. It's like where my lamp shines there is a glimmering spark of neatness in the room that I can be proud of. Yes, I am exaggerating... but not by that much. I would take pictures of my roommates' desks but that would be an invasion of privacy, a waste of memory card space, and most importantly, an unfortunate reminder of who I must clean after everyday.
So I plugged in my laptop's adaptor, but not the ethernet cable because I did not want any internet-related distractions hindering my studying. Sprawled on the floor because I did not feel like working on my desk, I cracked open my Anthropology 2ac book and started highlighting and typing like mad... for about two minutes. I couldn't concentrate; that evil trash heap was staring straight back at me, taunting me with its putrid stench and its contents spilling over the edges of the can. I got up, stomped the pile down into the can to compress the trash together, and with a lot of effort, was able to tie the handles of the trash bag together. I placed it on the dorm room floor and walked over to the recycle bin. First I balanced the to-go boxes on top of each other and then managed to get the cups in my hands. I opened the room door and ventured out to go to the compost bin where those darn to-go boxes belong. It's not the walk down the hallway, the four steps I must walk up, the deranged faces that watch me do this balancing act, or the freezing cold I must face that bug me when I must take out my roommates' compost; it's the smell of the rotten food in the boxes and the soggy feeling the boxes get from absorbing the food's juices for so long. If only I could share this exhilarating experience with my roommates.
After dumping out just the to-go boxes, I headed back to the room, dreading the load of recycling I would have to take outside to the same location where I got rid of the decayed food. I picked up the whole bin from the bottom and carried it out. Same adventure, but with less of the smell. However, since the bin was much more full than usual, things kept falling out and I would have to stop my trek, put down the bin, pick up the dropped cans, and replace them back inside. I don't know whether I was more pleased to know that if there was more recycling that meant that I finally taught my Chinese roommate how to recycle or whether I was more upset that this was such a tedious job that no one else was willing to do, no matter how much I hinted. Perhaps I need to be more blunt... Anyways, I did manage to reach the larger recycling bin eventually and empty ours out, so I dragged the bin back to our room.
Putting the bin back into its place, one of my roommates walks back in, the tall White one that lived in Canada all her life, except her senior year of high school where she moved to Saratoga. She said "Oh, hey, you're back!" I gave her a smile. The tied-up trash bag was still on the floor; I gave it a slight nudge with my foot... a slight indication that there was trash on the floor, offer to throw it out dammit. She just walked over to her laptop and went onto Facebook.
I just left the trash bag there, maybe someone will pick it up and bring it to the dumpster tomorrow, or the day after, or maybe a week later when there will be five tied bags lined in our room. So far it has been a day, and that trash bag is still on the floor, bugging the hell out of me. Am I obsessive compulsive? I don't think so... maybe just comparable to them I am because I'm the only one that gets irked when our room smells like week-old korean barbecue beef and rice from the DC.
You can probably tell this is not the first time that I have tried this tactic of leaving the trash there though. I've never let it go too far; I think the longest I have waited to see if they would take out the trash was about a week and a half... three trash bags were on the floor, along with too many to-go boxes to count, and a bin & bag full of recycling. They did not take out any of it if you wanted to know the end result of my week-long rebellion.
Oh did I mention that I'm the only one that vacuums our room too? I'm pretty sure I did. One day my roommate will notice I accidentally vacuumed up her spare hair ties and a pencil by accident but I guess that's what happens when you don't do a job yourself; it's never done right. But that's a story for another day.
Do they think that there's a trash fairy that comes by while they're sleeping or out of the room? It picks up their trash for them and leaves behind an empty trash bag just because it is soo glad to get more trash from them. Well, I suppose it's possible, I mean there is a tooth fairy that loves to collect adolescents' teeth. Have you heard of her? Yeah, she'll pay you for your teeth if you put them under your pillow at night. I hear she pays twice the price if you give her one that has a cavity in it. The only catch is that you have to tell your parents to notify her because she's no mind reader, just a crazed fairy that loves teeth... maybe she doesn't have any of her own.
Anyways, the moral of this story is that if you aren't already being taken advantage of by your roommates to take out THEIR trash, don't let it start. Set up some schedule and share the fun... or if you're the one making your roommate take out the trash, shame on you! I hope you rot like the food that you leave for your roommate to throw away! Just kidding... just offer to take out the trash sometime... you never know if your roommate is saying the same thing about you right now.

MY BAD!
LOL! oh no no! i didnt answer questions, I meant to say, YAY! there WILL BE a new set of questions! xD ahahahhaa
Finals ARE indeed coming up.. but i have done nothing. i feel so bad. why am i even writing on here? eep!
ahahaa; though i should be studying for my chemistry finals, i have yet to do so. I have been on facebook and reading a fanfic... sadly, that fanfic had a horrible ending... a biiig contrast compared to how the story started out.
Watch, next thing you know, i'm going to be watching a movie... and then... i'll fail my finals. and regret & then cry and omggg. >< okay; i'll study after this blog :D
I realized that i didnt talk about anything related to college last time.. except how frustrated i was with myself in college reading articles that made me steam up. Ahahaa~ ^-^
I actually dont know where to start. Lets start with what's on the top of my mind.... FINALS! So... i have 4 finals. 3 on tuesday and 1 on friday. damn that final. why friday? i could have gone home days earlier if it were earlier. but i guess it's good because i really have a lot to study for for the friday finals.
Right now, i'm at CLICS. It's the library at Revelle College. It has been opening for 24 hours for the past week and going to remain opened for people to study in during finals week. Boy, i would have never thought so many people'd be here 24 hours. There are so many throughout the day... that it took me a long time to find a seat at a table to work at. Heck, I still see people now walking back and forth looking for seats and asking if a a certain chair/spot on the table is vacant. I'm happy I finally got a computer booth seat. Isolation~
A lot of people say it's hard to study here because of the noise level. It's not VERY LOUD... but... it's like a noisy library. Loud but not loud enough for one to comprehend what someone is saying, juuuuust right :D yay!
__ ++ edit before posting::: wow.. it's 12... sooo... the library gives free food Ahahaha~ ^-^
Oh yeah, speaking of studying here... (which i have no idea how this relates to what i'm about to say.... but.. here goes :D) I ABSOLUTELY HATE BEING ON CAMPUS DURING THE WEEKENDS!! well, i hate being in revelle during the weekends... it's sooooo .... dead. it's like... there's nothing to do but.. study study study. parties? none at all. as always, you'd have to travel to SDSU for them. Anyways, another reason on why I absolutely dislike being in Revelle during the weekends is that... THERE'S NO FOOD!! (I emphasize Revelle College because... i think it's only Revelle College... I heard the other colleges in UCSD have a great variety of food... but.. i'm too lazy to walk there =x ) THERE'S NO FOOOD!!!! when i walked in Plaza Cafe (Revelle's Dining) at 6:30pm for food today... THERE WAS NOTHING!! no sushi or sandwiches in the fridge, no grill, no wraps at the deli, all the mains in the rottisserie were GONE, and the pasta stand STILL HAD BREAKFAST BAGELS ON IT! say what?! yeah. whatt?! so what WAS there to consume there?? Icecream, milk, beverages, coffee, hot cocoa, pizza, and instantly made sandwiches (cold). In other words... if i wanted to eat something warm.. it'd be pizza. i was not in the mood for pizza....
the amount of food choice in Plaza just pisses me off... I mean.. it's not the first time, it's like this EVERY WEEKEND! (especially on Sundays!) I ended up just eating Easy Mac, Breakfast Sausage Muffins, and a fruit cup for dinner. pretty sad.
BE HAPPY MANUEL. HAPPY YOU GET TO COOK FOR YOURSELF! :D Invite me overrr someday, yeah? I know one of ur roommies toooo!! (: Ahahaa~ (:
Holiday spirit? I sure feel it but there's none in our suite. My suite is somewhat anti social... or maybe it's just the rooms on my side (because at night even at 4am... i hear people laughing and talking and omging.)
There are so many Koreans here. I always hear Korean out my window. Oh and my roommate speaks Korean sometimes. She just blurts it out. AHaha. By the way, she's awesome (: We do the silliest things... a~ womanizer...armflingy exercise...damn flies...magic stick... oh becareful at night... you dont know what i might do tonight... (dont get the wrong idea please O_O) Ahahahaa~~ I bet i cant get a better roommate (: Too bad she's in Muir... xD (Muir ~ another college in UCSD)
i think i have the most horrible blogging style. it's so unorganized and unpunctuated... or i should say... mispunctuated. oh dang. i cant wait tim humanities gets me writing 'normally' sigh. i dont want to write. i dont want humanities. what does writing and humanities have to do with science?! Sigh.
Sometimes, i wish i had drama in my life. It sucks being so.... dramaless.
Now i ran out of things to say... Time to look at other's who blogged :D
Omgsh, Angela, I agree with the lack of choices of food in the dining hall... every dining hall serves practically the same thing everyday. Thus... if one wants a new variety.... *looooong walk~~* garrrghoifdalx. lol I think the school wants us to be malnutritioned by consuming approximately the same things daily!
Hmmm.. Cute guys? None at SD... Just friendly ones, ones that give you the "nopes. not hot/omg so hot" look, ones who have ADD(?), stalkerish ones, annoying ones, the creepy ones, funny ones (i guess these can be considered the cute ones... o_O), gamer ones, and the party ones. AND AHAHA so many categories... and still none hot/cute/pretty/handsome.. i guess it's true that people at UCSD are 'ugly' *shrug*
Oh yeah... speaking of gamer guys... DAYUMMMMMM i've never seen ANYONE.. in the entire world... SOOO sucked into something... that they have no idea their wallets are stolen! Shhhhhhhzzt. i mean... seriously! So this is how it goes...
*talk talk talk. laughlaughlaugh*
guy: oh lets play a game of *nameofvideogame/mmorpg*!!
other guys: okay! *runs back to get their laptop/computer*
guys: *opens the game*
and they sit like that for hours. only thing moving... are fingers and rarely, the eyes to look to the other corner of the screen. WTF? WTF?
okay.. continue...
Other people: *taps their shoulders* hey, do you have food i can have?
guys: *taps keys*
other people: hello?
guys: *eyes move to the other corner of the screen;; taps keys*
other people: *jacks a wallet, jacks their food, jacks their .. you name it.*
guys: *taps keys*
*hours pass by
*games end
guys: HOLY SHZZT?! where's my _______?!
i have nothing to say to that... but "WOW."
There's also a bug problem here, which reminds me i need to get mothballs. I would not want to find myself in Justine's place... moths eating holes in her shirts. Oh yeah, walking up my building one day, i saw a mouse in the cart where you put your 'finished' dishes. (for those who bring their food back to their dorms to eat so they'll have a place to put it and cockroaches wont be living on your desk and biting holes through your homework) I didn't notice it until i walked past that cart and was going to go up the stairs when a small thing dashed next to me. I found myself chasing after the rodent but it was too fast and ran under the staircase. It was pretty cute. Reminded me of an asian dwarf hamster with a extraordinary long tail. Anyways... back to bugs. THERE ARE SO MANY FLIES ALL OVER THE PLACE! DANG. i swear.. if i see another one, i'm just going to get my lint roller and smack it. I cant believe i've been putting them in ziploc bags and releasing them the next day -.-; bad idea? they've been coming back.. and each time smarter (or i'm just getting slower). Must they really learn the hard way? It's really annoying. sigh. I should continue to use Frebreez... it keeps them out of the room. Then it comes to .. Darn you Polly! (Polly: DONT USE FREBREEEZZZZ! IT'S BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!)
Hmm... well.. for now.. i'll be using it all over and in the suite until these darn flies stay away from me :D
oh yeah.. speaking of all this ... not so pleasant things... ODOR! my fridge had the fridge odor! I NEED HELP GETTING RID OF IT! currently trying the teabag... going to try the lemon next. and baking soda/powder after that. what else? (:
'Tis the season to be studying falalalala
So, I see Carin's answered questions... but I don't see any questions haha. Oh well, I'll just talk about anything then.
I wish I didn't have to suffer through finals to reach winter break. I want to just sleep through finals and pass them in my dreams, and complete my 20 page+ essay in my sleep too. Wouldn't that be awesome? Yes it would.
So what's happened lately... well, I'm glad we're getting the Secret Santa thing organized =) I'm pretty excited for it, especially since I actually made a legit wishlist this year that has things I really want on it haha. If I don't get any of them... eh, at least I can get it myself eventually.
Speaking of Christmas, my dorm building (Stern Hall), is well... stern on their rules. No hanging stringed lights, no decorations on the outside of doors, no candles... basically, no Christmas spirit in the dorm building! =( How lame, right? Well they can't keep the Christmas spirit out of Angela, no way! I've found ways to work around the rules lol ;] I made a big paper Christmas tree and taped it on the inside of the door so no meanie sees it and tattles on our room. And then I'm making decorations for it; it looks cute to me =) I can show pictures when we get together haha. Actually, the original reason for making it was because I wanted to get a picture with me and my roommates in front of a big Christmas tree like the ones in Downtown so I planned a day for us to go there, but then one of my roommates cancelled... and there isn't much time left to go, especially with finals just a week away sooo I'm bringing the tree to us =D
Oh, I've also made a Christmas playlist on imeem that has like 60 Christmas songs I put together and I play it like all the time in the room, even when I'm out, to bring Christmas jolliness in our room =P Haha, I've gotta put a rest on it sometimes though, I think it might bug my roommates because it surely bugs me... that's when Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Natasha Bedingfield take over until we recover from the Christmas spirit overload... then back on!
When I have time, I still work out, but lately I haven't been running as much with all the work I have now. But I've discovered a bunch of new places to do pullups =) You know those bars in closets where you hang your hangers on? Yup, that's Pullup station #1. The con about it is I can't do a full pullup without banging my head on the closet ceiling first. Pullup station #2 is the bar that holds up shower curtains in the girls' bathroom. It is a lot sturdier than I thought. Negative about that: I can only do it when nobody's in the restroom and it is square shaped so it's a big sacrifice for my hands... But my favorite place to do pullups here I guess would be the pullup bar at the track. Every place has bad things about it and for this one they are the fact that people can see me doing my pullups, it is far away from the dorm room, and my hands slip off fairly easily. Anyways, I think that's enough about pullups, I'm sure no one cares haha. If I weren't me, I wouldn't care either.
Onto social college matters... any cute guys? Eh... none that I am interested in, but if white guys are your thing, there are plenty here, take your pick. Oh, a lot of Korean and Chinese guys too. Fair amount of Indian. I know a few African-Americans if anyone wants to meet them.
I feel like I'm getting along better with my roommates, not that I wasn't before, but like, we can talk about personal things now which is pretty cool. Especially when we go on rants about why we hate boys -.- No we don't hate men, we hate boys, that is, people of the male sex that have not yet matured into the age that they are. And it's funny how in Berkeley, a place that supposedly has so many intelligent people, boys are still prevalent. I'm also kind of sad that classes are ending because I've met so many people I probably won't see anymore.... which is why I'm thankful for Facebook haha. Well, there's always my architecture classes, I'm sure basically everyone will be the same there; I'll probably have those classes with the same people for all my four years here. I wonder if I can get sick of them?
Oh, did I mention I highly dislike campus food? It's not that the food is bad... well, there are some things that you should never try... but it's very, repetitive? The dining common food is decent, but only if you go on the right days. Some days they have leftovers of the stuff people didn't eat the night before which I don't find very reasonable because if we didn't finish it off the night before, what makes them think we'd want it the next day, after it has been sitting out and reheated? Pizza is ALWAYS on the menu, same with pasta and rice and al dente broccoli. I think my expectations for college food were really low when I first came so I was content with the food... maybe I've just become a picky eater now >.<>.<
Speaking of mirrors and vanity, I want to reply to Carin's post about those freaky 6-year-olds. Those are really really scary looking >.< It's like... the makeup makes them look old but you can still totally tell they're adolescents, probably from the shape of their face or something. It's so creepy!! But I don't know if the makeup will ruin their face for the future. If they're used to wearing that much makeup now, I'm sure they won't mind wearing more to cover up any pre-mature wrinkles and nasties they get later on. Or for rich folks like them that can afford dolling up their kids like that, laser surgery and face lifts are never out of the question for them. It'd be interesting if something went wrong and they ended up looking like Michael Jackson though. =) I guess if the parents think their kids are more beautiful covered in makeup, it's their choice how they raise their children. Hopefully their kids don't look like that at school too... It would be a sad day to see a first grader avoiding a game of kickball or tag because she didn't want to smudge her mascara.
Well I'm tired. I think I'll write a better entry some other time. Need to study... and sleep. =)

Counting Days...
I would have never thought so many things could happen in these past four months. There are the occasional, normal ups and downs, but there were so many things that happened that I will not soon forget. For me (and most likely for all), it was a season of new experiences. I've harmonized new friendships with my teammates (it helped that we ran with each other practically every single day except Sunday, and bonded through outings). I will always keep them in mind when I run, and wait for them to come to San Diego. I have also been much more involved at work, and I've been given much more responsibility. It's nice, and we've also have had a couple of guys night out, which I'd say, have been incredible nights of bonding, haha. Bond? James Bond. Uhh... anyway... I'm really glad we all got together Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. I missed everyone that was there. It was a nice get together, especially since there were over 25 people in total! Good job getting everyone together, Angela! Hah, it was fun.
Classes have been ridiculously easy... I'm not doing a good job of being modest, but nor am I exaggerating, unfortunately. It's partly my fault for not choosing the traditional "hard" classes, I guess. Due to the low intensity of these classes, I put off the occasionally assigned homework until either the day before, or the day of (a horrible habit that I hope is not developed, but rather only exercised). But, at least I'm having fun in all my classes, especially my Psyc 40 class (childhood and adolescent psychology). For our term paper/project, we had to find a child going through cognitive change... well, w/e let's just say, we had to find a child between the ages 7-11, and then do experiments with them, or gauge their development, then after writing the what-should-have-been-an-extensive-paper, we had to write a letter to the parents of the child, basically helping them raise their child. That was so tricky, because you don't want to put what you want to say in such a way that would enrage the parent and completely disregard your suggestions. But, I was able to finish it in enough hours before I had to turn it in that I was able to sleep a couple of hours. The point is, it was fun =)
I can't wait for our gathering! My last days here in Daly City will be great, hanging out with all circles of friends, and getting ready to leave and start living on my own (with roommates). Can't wait!
blah blah blah
-Andrew
ps. oh oh! did we decide on a date and place for winter break? lol
pps. i know my post is boring/bland, but i tried =)
It's DECEMBER!!
1. sorry for the long ass list of things i dont want on facebook, though it is true that i dont really need any of those but books and hooks. xD
2. FINALS ARE COMING UP!! I wish you guys and gals all good luck on your finals (: Be excited for them to be over so we get to see each other! Yee!
3. We should totally take a college shirt/sweater group pic (; it'll be awesome (right?) & "just for this site" (though i'd probably facebook it xD xD)
4. I FIND IT ABSOLUTELY GROTESQUE THAT LITTLE GIRLS (meaning.. age 6-middle school) ARE WEARING MAKEUP AND DEMANDING LV/COACH/UGGS/NORTHFACE.
So now, i will rant about it.
what's with kids these dayyss?! when we were in elementary school, didnt we only wear like... sweat pants and dorky asian stuff? Or for my caucasian friends, sweaters and sweatpants/dorky jeans? Our socks will showed, accessory-less, just... dressed by our moms?
I was reading on a forum.. and found these pictures... the instant i saw them... i was like.. OMGOMGOMG wtheck?!
rantingover.

A BeaconThrough the Smog
as class was soon about to begin, i made a mental note to speak to these people later on my way back to the dorms. i wish i had walked through the area while the activists were spray painting t-shirts with catchy graphics promoting prop 2, or while their game for a chance to win a shirt or vegan treats was ongoing, but i did catch them in time to ask what i can do to help, right before my hands were filled with a stack of fliers to distribute, a bumper sticker (it's on my tote since i don't have a car), and a bright yellow paper with a picture of those girls hugging ginormous squishy adorable pigs and the directive i needed to enliven my mundane college experience.
on thursday i attended my first meeting of my newfound love, the club Bruins for Animals. the chilly, slightly intimidating room decorated with nothing but a white board and 4 tables arranged to create one large meeting area quickly warmed up with the welcoming attitudes of club members, ranging from the administrative third years including kelleigh (a blonde white girl with far better cause to apply her intellect and compassion to than any other i have seen here), a semi-newcomer named payal who had only been to a couple meetings last year when not even 5 people showed up at a time, a phd student (the only male present haha), our community liaison zoe, other eager first-years like myself, and a mix of girls in-between sharing our love for animals and passion for improving their lives. surprisingly the ice-breaker at the beginning of the meeting did not strike me as a humiliating waste of time as most do, but instead gave me something to talk about that every one of us could relate to, specifically, our wacky pet names.
as the agenda progressed, we discussed reactions to and critiques or commendations of the event i witnessed the day before, and future events in the planning stage like a thanksgiving activity to communicate the dire plight of turkeys murdered by the masses during the holiday season, and upcoming movie screenings of films that appeal to the conscience and graphically document the reality behind human use of animals for entertainment, food, clothing, pets, and labor, as well as lighthearted cinema for any fan of animals. listening in wonder at the enthusiasm and creativity of my fellow BFA members, i felt confident that i had found some true angels in los angeles who would not mock my moral principles and who could help guide me in my personal mission of helping animals in a place where almost no one seems to care.
one of my "friends" from biomedical ethics, a taiwanese international student who attempts to talk and walk with me far too often for my comfort, blatanly responded to my polite request for him to take a few fliers to spread the word on prop 2, "in my home country no one really cares about animals. we have more important things to think about, like national security with china nearby. animals don't matter." suffice to say, i deleted him that day from my facebook friends and will no longer be granting him a casual uninterested smile nor will i be allowing him the privilege of my speaking to him as if i give a damn what he thinks.
barely grazing the better side of timing deadlines again, i reserved a club t-shirt at the end of the meeting on the last day orders were being taken. spending my measly college student funds on clothing with meaning more than makes up for restraining myself from purchasing another UCLA sweatshirt on sale in my size or a pink hollister sweater that would look fabulous on me but can probably be found on multitudes of other girls i'll walk past this winter season.
you may think i needlessly inundated a blog with superfluousnesses describing every aspect so far of this one change in my daily bleak outlook on bruin status, as opposed to a post detailing multiple newfound things to do in kari-style, but when i find something to fully appreciate about people in this school, i cannot take for granted any opportunity to indulge myself in it.
loving BFA,
Juli

Happy November (:
Here's an agenda of what I have to say about my... life? college life? (so you can skip to parts you want to read if you dont want to know about some things.)
1. classes/behind/ahead?
2. skipping unintended
3. halloween
4. winter/spring rush?
5. horrible stories.
6. stay/go home
7. randoms
1. sooo for academic life... i think i'm starting to go behind ahhhh; i cant let that happen. but i'll still have time to post here (: i think i'm behind in 2 of my classes but i'm catching b/c of a midterm... so in a sense, midterms arent that bad, they help you catch up? (even though they are the ones setting the deadline. ROFLOL) i also think it's weird.. how i dont have classes with people i know for a lot of the classes i have >< so it's like... besides chemistry, i dont have people to walk with to my other classes. also, for my computing arts class, we're playing a GAME as a project (: i found that pretttyy interesting & cool (: hahaha... thing is.. i dont think i have the time to play it!! xD LOL it's a game called Second Life. it's pretty interesting. you can fly :D only reason i dont like it is because it's like.... 3d... i hate 3d games.. because i'm not that complex in the mind, i guess. I like 2d games like maplestory. (:
2. skipping unintended. okay. so the first time i've ever skipped a class in my whole entire life. i skipped my computing arts class once (lecture). But i wouldnt have skipped it if i didnt have to! i only skipped it because i had a review session for chem midterms at the same time. ohh and by the way... i feel bad after looking at that midterm. practically the whole class failed. oh my. horrible indeed. but yeah. i still regret not skipping ONE class in high school. it'll be an experience i'll never get again. hmm well i did skip.. but like in college.. it was because i had something else to do (track?) does that count? lol
3. halloween. it's a long story. so at first i started halloween without any plans but school work... and more school work. this is how my day started out. i woke up at 8:30ish for my 9:00am class. it was math and there was a quiz. the night before i was going over the homework with victor in geisel library until like... 1am ish and we went over everything and pretty much solved everything except for one problem, problem 10. i was like.. okayy we must solve this because i have a feeling it would be on the test... then after many attempts... we were like..nah it's tooo hard to be on a test. after i got back to my dorm though, i felt like... i wont be accomplished until i solved it sooo i asked my roommate for help but she couldnt isolate the y's and x's either so then that gave me an idea.. IMPLICIT differentiation! (hahaha, i cant believe i didnt think of that earlier & sorry if you dont know what i'm talking about ><) anddd i solved it with out really thinking if it was right or wrong. i just left it at that and went to sleep.
okay so after a 30 minute lecture in my math class, the quiz was passed out and i looked at it. (by the way, these are 2 question quizzes;; two problems directly from the homework.) sooo the first one was easy and i easily finished that. THEN... i turned the page around and... Problem 10. OH MY GOOOODNESS. i was so happy i worked on it before i slept x) but yeah.. i hope i did the right thing before i slept and that was the answer (: lesson i learned here... extra time into studying and working does pay off. Also, if you dont get it right away, take a long walk or long break and go back to it. Or... simply ask for help.
Anyways, after my math class, i had political science discussion at 1o, so i headed off there and sat thru the discussion (reviewing for midterms). after that, i had an hour break. i dont even remember what i did in my dorm in that hour break because it went by soooooo fast. Because it takes me 15ish minutes to walk to my chem discussion, forty five minutes into my break, i left for my chemistry discussion, got there at 12 and sat thru it (it was pretty boring too!) i had another hour break until a review session for poli sci midterms came but the chem discussion location was so close to the polisci midterms location, i didnt want to walk 15 mins back to my dorm and later, walk 15 minutes back to that place. (half an hour gone like that!) so i just stayed near my chem discussion place which was when i was like... "What is there to do here in Thurgood Marshall College?" then.. DING! JUSTINE! so as i was walking towards justine's dorm, i called her and all of a sudden like magic, she appeared in front of me! (along with Mindy and Irene, her suitemate and roommate respectively) so i asked them where they were going and they were like.. i dont remember the room name so i just followed them. then that was when i decided i'd sit thru their lecture (which was an hour), perfect timing for me to go to my review session afterwards. what's even better was that... their DOC classes' lecture hall was going to be where my review session was :D so i basically stayed there for two hours (their doc class & my review session). YEAH so i went to a class i didnt even have! LOL (and learned (: it was interesting too)
after that review session, i had a group study session at 3 pm at clics (a library in revelle. the closest library from my dorm). however, only one member and i showed up for the group study because one couldnt be contacted and the other just couldnt make it. so i'm like.. okay it's pretty pointless since we all dont have our work... so we left. At first, we planned to work on the project until 5 but we left before 4. LOL me and my roommate were planning to go shopping at 5 but i guess we went instead at around 4:10 and met up with justine. (: just as we were walking to the bus stop, we realized we were in our 'costumes' (: my roommate was wearing green, justine pink, and me blue. WE WERE THE POWERPUFF GIRLS! ROFLOL oh my (; ahahaha sorry i forgot to take a picture >< but yeah we headed to the shopping center where ralphs/trader joe's was and shopped there a bit. my roommate had to leave then because she had to head back to go on a trip.
so it was me and justine now (: we ate at this deli place and then we were like.. it's only 6:30... what do we do nowwww? and the choices were that... we could either head back to campus or go to the mall. OF COURSE, we went to the mall! (: LOL we got there at roughly a little before 7 and shopped for about two hours (because 9 was when they close). i bought a tanktop from hollister, 2 shirts and a jacket from forever 21 (: justine didnt buy anything because she went on monday and spent a lot of money. xD when the clock struck 9, we headed to the line for the bus. OH MY GOODNESS. the bus was so scary because.. it didnt seem like a legit bus. we went on with like 3 other people and then another one of the same number bus came and took other people still standing in the line. but... i mean.. there couldnt be haunted busses that drive you to ur doom right? so i took the bus i was on with justine and 3 other ucsd students (because the bus driver was like... oh the other bus drives with all these stops but i drive straight to ucsd!). After he turned off the lights on the front of the bus, i got scared. he started driving and it was going fast because he wasnt making any stops. i soon began to wonder... shit. where's this taking me? why did i go on this bus?! OMGOMGOMG. but justine and 3 other girls were on the bus too so it cant be bad right? thankfully, we got back to ucsd and i thanked the bus driver (because i've never seen a public bus drive people straight towards where they needed to go).
When i got back i didnt want to walk back to revelle by myself so i went with justine and followed her to her dorm and saw her roommate and suitemate. We ended up talking and eating. We first went to OVT (the dining hall in marshall that doesnt close until 1am) because i was thirsty and wanted juice. I got a green tea. Oh yeah and this was where i happen to run into my family friend, sean. WOW. lol he does look a bit different and he had a girl next to him. i suppose it was his girlfriend from UCLA? o_O i dont know. but... *shruuuug* anyways i said hi, turned around, and turned back and he was gone. so ehh. oh then andrew called and asked if there were any parties were going on tonight. i said i didnt know any on campus. I knew there were some at SDSU though xD i got a mango green tea and went back to justine's dorm (: we then.. watched THE FOOD NETWORK :D LOL and during commercials, i would change the channel and watch this scary movie with justine and irene (justine fell asleep!! LOL) and it was sorta scary... bloody mary. ahahaha. yikes. but we kept switchingback and forth from food network to bloody mary. xD omgness. the shows finished and we were just talking.
soon after, victor called and asked if i wanted to go to price center. I'm like... okay.. so justine lent me a sweater :D theeenn justine and irene walked me to the pricecenter to meet up with them (as in... these four people named andrew, leandro, an, and victor// i'll just call them LAVA from now). it was funny because.. it was like... at 11? and the doors to the pricecenter was locked. I called and asked how do you open the doors?! and they were just like ... slide your id at the door! so i'm like.. okay! thanks! so i literally slid my id right between the doors.. (i thought it would open the lock) OMG. i felt sooo stupidd cuz when i walked to the other door, there was this slot for u to slide ur id card for the door to open!! OMGSHHH LOL so yeah we went in and then met up. Then, irene needed to go to the bathroom but the bathroom we saw was being cleaned and wont be usable for another while. Good thing... (or bad thing?) there was a co-ed bathroom (like.. just one toilet in a room kind?) but because we just watched a scary movie, she didnt want to go in by herself and she didnt want us to go in with her soooo she held it. xD LOL the lady took forever cleaning so they just went back to their dorm and i was now with LAVA. they were deciding where to go and finally, we went to warren, leandro & victor's suite.. where.. i was surprised because everyone was out partying. lol so they did some crazy things there and then from there we walked all the way to revelle (farthest college away?) to andrew's suite to meet up with more people (: . lol HAHA they did crazy things there too! Rockband xD card games. xD i'd love to post pictures.. but... LOL... i dont think i should go in detail, but it was all fun (: we got a complaint that we were too loud. (AND HOLY JIDFJSDLFD MY RA was on DUTYYYY OMGOMG that was so embarassing. ><) L and V (the people from warren) got too crazy to go back to warren so they just crashed in andrew's suite along with the other usual people who stay the night there. When they were going to pass out, i just left and talked to sean the whole night because i didnt feel sleepy anymore. (it was already pretty late into the night when we left) but at around 6:30am i went back to my dorm and slept. that concludes my halloween. honestly, it was one of the best ones ever because i hung out with so many people... AND SHOPPED UNTIL 9PM!!! (:
4. i'm planning to rush for a frat/sor. I am actually choosing between two. a social one.. and a professional one. hmm... i think i'm only picking frat over social because social ones... ahaha the stories. calling you at 1am when ur sick doesnt sound appealing. plus, after halloween, i realized i could have even more fun without joining (:
5. so i've heard horrible stories about sororities. hazing? lol. so the sorority made the pledges move ginormous boulder like rocks around to spell out their sorority's name and had a group of guys (probably from a frat) try to destroy the sign. thus, they had to keep rearranging the rocks. ouch. physical torture? next i heard a story where a girl was called at 1am the night before halloween to make a costume . MAKE A COSTUME. good thing she had a car. She had to make a pokemon costume and wear it the whole day and act out a skit in the middle of the school. wowwww. yeah that's basically all i remember of what people have told me about their roommates/suitemates/friends.
6. i actually love it here. i do want to go home though. i mean i'm not homesick... but i just want to share the experience. (: y'noe? lol so lucky that most of you have already gone home at least once. welps, just a few more weeks for mee! (:
7. randoms.. hmm.. i've been bonding with my text books. i've been reading so much.. i think i'll go crazy. lol i haaaate readinggg grrrrr. lol but i love college (: it's fun. cant wait for the november questions (; oh now i'm going to go get my clothes that i bought from justine's dorm and my camera that i left in andrew's suite. later ^-^
:D so please do tell me, how were your Halloweens? (: fantastic, i hope. :D

Peek-a-boo
I'm having a really crazy time here. I've gone to a frat party(uh...parties), did rush week for a sorority (NOT BECAUSE I'm INTERESTED), checked out some cultural clubs (where I watched guys kiss 3 times... >_> my eyessss!!!), uhmmm and I'm getting like straight b's(eeeeeppp.)!
Here's my loft ~ <3
Generally, I'd have to say that my dorm is really smallllll :( but I've seen smaller triples so I can't complain. Since my bed is so high, at night, the boys upstairs stomp and sound like they're bowling and falling from their beds and I'm SO AFRAID that the ceiling will break and I'll be killed. I heard they don't have ladders but that's hard to believe.
I dunno what Carin has said about UCSD... I should go read.. but I love the weather here. We've had a few foggy days and all my suitemates complain but I love ittt~ There's a Trader Joe's and a lot of other shops around here that make it easy to get off campus food. Oh, and if you guys come visit, I'll swipe for you because it doesn't look like I'll be finishing my meal points. ::coughnoteattingcough::
I'm coming home for halloween if anyone wants to go trick or treating with meeee~

UCDavis!
College is overall pretty good i would have to say. It has its good side and bad. Let's start with the bad..
Biking is kinda scary. AND YES i can bike! I don't see how it is so hard to believe that i can bike -__- anyways there are A LOT of bikes here. it's scary biking to class cuz there are so many people riding on bikes and walking! there aren't many rules either well there are but ppl don't really follow them. So people are just doing whatever they want. Trying not to get hit by other bikes is scary enough, but trying to bike around big red buses is even worse! Sometimes stupid cars don't even yield to you >( But it's fun biking with friends at night! It's empty and u can go as fast as you want =)it's REALLY cold tho! XD
I HATE morning classes! I know i used to wake up earlier for high school but still! i hate waking up at 7AM three times a day -.- Every morning while walking down the stairs to the bathroom i'm like.. "i want to kill myself"... "no more morning classes!"..."i want to sleep -.-"..."after class i'm gonna sleep!" It's soo horrible! i'm always so tired that i can't pay attention. The only thing i pay attention to is the time on my phone.XD yup i learned my lesson! no more morning classes. Especially since i always sleep super late doing hw or studying.
I agree with carin. Quarter system does suck! It has only been a few weeks of school and midterms are here already! I've been so stressed these past two weeks. The first few weeks were really chilled and relaxed. I KNEW that was impossible! It was too good to be true -.- lol yup i suffered the consequences BADLY! Ever since i came back from home two weekends ago I've been stressing like CRAZY. Especially last week. I shouldn't have gone home that weekend.. especially since i had two midterm that following week. SO STUPID! IT WAS SO NOT WORTH IT AT ALL! That week i studied like crazy. i would go to the 24 hour study room in the library for like 4 hours and come back at like 1 ish at night. i would get soo dizzy from all that reading XD it was horrible XD Also for some reason i lost my appetite. i only ate bread and drank coffee the whole week =/ i needed coffee to keep myself awake and only ate bread cuz i didn't feel like eating anything else.. haha after that week i sleep for over 12 hours! that was crazy! haha Anyways i'm glad midterms are over! but i still have a lot of reading and essay to do -.- .. great...
Time for the good part =) After reading juli's blog. I'm happy with Jessica as my roommate. haha she's a very entertaining person to watch. It's always fun watching her to silly things XD She's always checking out guys! LOL and she would tell me about them. >.< she would ask me "what would u give him on ur "asian" scale or ur "dark" scale?" LOL XD it's so funny! We used at shower at like 12 ish at night. While we showering we would talk to each other. Then one day i saw a sign on the door and it said "please be quiet after 11" LOL! I knew it was referring to us XD how embarrassing. o yeah! The RA knocked on our door once telling us to be quiet >.< that was bad lol We would also tell each other "stuff." Well in case u didn't notice.. i haven't been really happy these past two weeks. Due stress and other stuff. It's nice that Jessica would try to cheer me up by playing this song, "someone to call my lover by janet jackson" and would also start dancing to it. It would always make me laugh. =) We also hang out with the same people. lol Looking at the pictures on facebook you may notice that most of my friends are Asians. haha we live right across from the Asian building. So we would hang out and eat with them. They're really cool and nice! It's weird cuz most of them are guys too. haha o well. AND no i'm not with JAMES! he is a really good friend. Not my type, trust me. Too girly and not a gentlemen AT ALL! XD One time when he was cold he took Jessica's jacket even when she was cold >.< and said "jessica i'm cold" LOL!! BADD! not the guy for me. But as a friend he's a keeper for sure! He is really funny too! He is someone i would trust. It's so funny how he tries to keep me "innocent." When i was rushing, he would try to convince me to not do it cuz he said i won't be innocent anymore. And just yesterday he told me my shorts were too short and to not wear them anymore cuz it isn't innocent XD LOL he's so protective omg XD He's like a dad! So basically i like the people here. Thanks to them life at Davis isn't as bad as i thought it would be. I am actually enjoying myself here =) but i do miss my friends back home tho =/
02 will you be going trick-or-treating this year?
Hm i'm coming home that weekend.. but i'm not sure if i'm gonna go trick or treating XD don't really feel like it.. eh i don't even know what i'm gonna do that weekend =/ it's supposed to be my "bday" week. but i'm not looking forward to that AT ALL! =/ My 18th bday is gonna suck! o well. i'm not gonna expect anything anymore.
03 who's coming back for thanksgiving (for those who are away)?
yeah i should be coming back that weekend too. It's a holiday and i need to spend it with my family XD Plus almost everyone is gonna be gone so no point of staying. it's gonna be hecka empty XD
04 soo... what's new?
ohoh! Remember the two chinese guys in our calc class?! haha the bigger one lives in my building!! i think in same floor too! What a coincidence! omg! I knew he looked familiar! HAHA! While biking i saw him and was like "dang he looks like familiar" LOL Jessica even saw him and thought the same thing! haha There is actually another person from westmoor that goes to davis too! XDD wow
Anyways that's all. bye!

Greetings from Daly City
I practice hardcore lonerism every day of the week besides Wednesdays when I'm blessed with the presence of the great Markelov himself, and Fridays when I don't have school. Being alone isn't something that's terrifying or new to me, and I actually do prefer it over the effort of being social with morons I'd rather not associate with. It's not that I have a hard time making friends, it's just that I choose not to. I'm in community college. Chances are that after this semester, I'll never see you again, so if you can't benefit me in anyway, then I see no point in the effort. The people I do talk to in class are nothing more than friendly acquaintances bonded together through circumstance. Nothing bonds people together more than confusion. Or hatred towards the same person. Like perhaps the teacher.
My only complaint of being solo during my journey through school is the hassle of fending off losers with one hand and carrying my books with the other. Unfortunately, I am what you call a loser magnet. Much to my chagrin, I am not capable of attracting anyone other than that of the short and scrawny nonenglish speakers of Asian origin. The rare few that don't fall under that category happen to be either girls or creepy white boys with personality disorders.
On with my rant with the rather distasteful and disappointing selection of boys at my school. City is overloaded with fobs. It's like I'm in China all over again, minus the good food, cheap goods, and occasionally attractive boy not wearing those ridiculously thick plastic-framed glasses that mislead people to believe that there is something worth looking at beneath them. Perhaps I'm being harsh but I'm in one of those darkly humorous negative moods that make my writing all the more entertaining. Avert your eyes if you find me offending. I'm going to generalize here and focus on the Asian population of my school. The average height of a boy is either 1+ inches shorter than me, or at most 1 inch taller. I am 5'3. That cancels out every candidate at my school for a future boyfriend because I like my heels and refuse to dominate in height rather than the relationship in itself, though I have a sneaking suspicion that I'd wear the pants in any relationship I may have with an Asian boy. If there is a God, he'll send me a freakishly tall Chinese boy from Europe having a mental capacity larger than his dick and capable of using his brain for purposes other than playing video games. Or at least a really hot Asian lesbian that looks like a girl attracted to me that will make life interesting and hopefully save me from the boys that think they have a chance.
Here's a story.
I have geology class in the basement of the science building on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-9:30pm. It's a class I would truly enjoy if it weren't for one little thing.
One day after class, as I was walking the hall of the dim desolate basement wondering if my dad had come yet, I heard the sudden echo of footsteps behind me. I figured, that perhaps we just happen to be going the same way, after all, there aren't many exits to choose from down there. Unable to to determine the proximity of the distance between me and the unknown figure, I decided that regardless of circumstances, I would hurry because I am a mildly paranoid person with good reason. A couple weeks ago, a failed attempt of rape happened at night on campus, and I wasn't taking chances. I quickened my pace, and to my horror, the person behind started running. After ME. Sadly, in my moment of possible danger, my thought process was a bit screwy. I visually contemplated what I had with me to protect myself with, and the best instrument of pain I could come up with was my geology book-- which was a soft cover book worth a hundred dollars in value. What if I damaged it in the process? There's no way I can sell it back to the bookstore in that kind of condition. Worse. What if I lost it? I GET TESTED EVERY WEEK I CAN'T AFFORD TO LOSE IT!! It'd take at least two weeks for another one to arrive if I bought it online. I just couldn't make that kind of a sacrifice. I figured if he was bigger than me, with a substantial element of surprise, I would be able to take him. So I stopped and turned around to face the stalker. And it was the little fob boy that sat at the opposite end of the lab table from me in class. He stopped, breathless from his chase, and smiled at me. I looked at him wearily and did the only thing I could do. I said hello.
CC: hello.
creepy stalker boy: hi!
CC: yes?
creepy stalker boy: Are you Chinese?
ok. what. the. fuck. are you serious? I didn't know any better and answered his question. Yes. Then he proceeded to ask me if I spoke Chinese. Which of course I answered yes because I'm proud to be bilingual. And then. He asked me if I spoke Cantonese. You should have seen his eyes light up when I made the mistake of answering honestly. I mistook that gleam of excitement for hope that I would help him clarify the things we went over in class today. I was wrong. He wanted nothing from me regarding classwork. Ended up he wanted to know me.
You do not chase a girl after class at night in a basement to get to know her. Did I mention he giggled from nervousness? If you have the balls to chase a girl down for her name and ethnicity, you hold your act and don't giggle like a little girl.
The following week, he migrated from his end of the table to mine, grinned at me and parked his tiny ass next to my seat. It became apparent that he wanted to initiate a friendship first and then progress to a relationship. I did what I could do to avoid talking to him, literally fleeing out the back door when class ended. Deciding this couldn't continue, I started putting my personal belongings on the chair next to me, spreading my papers around me like a defensive barrier and adopting a busy and indifferent attitude, discouraging him from talking to me. When I tired of my routine, I would relocate to another table, certain he didn't have the galls to follow.
My therapist reprimands me and says that my misfortunes are self inflicted-- that I initiate connection when I smile and be nice to the socially awkward indie boys that don't have friends of the opposite sex. He says there is a reason why they don't have girlfriends. He laughs at the boldness and brash stupidity they display in presence. He claims that the only way I'll be happy is if I find myself a normal white man. He also thinks I should drink and party and try new things, like pot. My therapist's name is Aleks by the way. He's not a professional. As you can see.
My only option left is to deny my Chinese heritage and my ability to speak another language as long as I attend this school .
So how do I try to avoid these happenings when I don't have Aleks to keep them at bay? I go to the library and hide behind the cubicles lined up in the 'quiet zone.' Unfortunately, the ghettoist kids camp out right next to the library in packs, terrorizing the nerdy children [such as myself] who seek refuge in the sanctuary. You know that saying, 'it's always darkest before dawn?' Well, it's being taken literally. I have to walk past swarms of black kids before I can get to my final destination.
Ironically enough, though my school has a mostly Asian population, there are virtually none in most of my classes. For the first time, I am a minority. The little Chinese girl amongst the white people. I've been told stories about people being surrounded by dumbasses in college. I happen to be surrounded by extremely talkative intellectuals, eager to show the class what potential they have by using big words and answering questions with oral essays of their steadfast opinions. Answers can draw out from five minutes to fifteen, depending on the girl speaking.
Conciseness is underrated.
Although the change of speech is somewhat refreshing, by that I mean the generous use of expansive vocabulary contributed from each participating individual, the content of which is spewed out [not unlike sewage from a backed up drain] is rather mundane and unbearably liberal in a bad way, especially when coming from the mouths of the narrow minded radical feminists that tend to populate my classes. Sitting in the back, I struggle to maintain a mild composure and keep my comments to myself for my personal safety and comfort, sitting on my hands to keep from raising in participation. Occasionally my eyebrow will raise in disagreement or disgust but it goes unnoticed as I look away when this happens. I have a reoccurring fantasy that one day during class, I will finally snap and say something completely controversial with a well supported argument, which will cause my fellow peers to scream with rage and do a variation of Rumpelstiltskin's act that will lead to their demise. For those who don't know the story of Rumpelstiltskin, he stamped his foot so hard on the earth that it opened a crevice and swallowed him up.
Classes and work take up my life. With impending deadlines and what little time I have left when I come home from after school, I do what any other person under my circumstances would do.
I turn on my laptop and do things unrelated to schoolwork.
Peace.

Dear Julie.
Your posts always opt for an interesting read. I love your biting humor and blunt forwardness. I can only hope to achieve your talent of writing. Through the recordings of our miserable lives posted on this blog, have you realized we can both be extremely entertaining?

Hydrogen Iodide everyone! (:
It sort of makes me sad now because I dont hang out with many friends that laugh over the stupidest jokes anymore. Whatever.
I just read juli's blog. and i laughed at this... " the slob stays out until 3 am, sleeps in until 3 pm the following afternoon, and though she says, "i love dresses! they're my favorite...activity!""
seriously.. "I LOVE DRESSES! THEY ARE MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY!" ACTIVITY?! ACTIVITY?!?! since when was ' dresses ' an activity. dang. o_O; i would say she's more like.. that fat 'dumb' dude in family guy o_O; anywhos ... your blog was interesting but i hope your conditions get better ><; (transfer here! you'll love it! (: )
Anywhoooos; i hate the quarter system! everything's so fast. midterms and what not already and i'm already 1 chapter behind in chem, 3 chapters of hw behind in chem, and just wayyy behind in my visual arts class. boo. but at the same time, i'm meeting a lot of cool people; people who respect you, people who'd barge into your suite and knock on your door for food at 1am, people who dont keep their words, people who are way smart, people who party like crazy, people who just want to graduate, people... the list goes on.
My roommate, Suzy, is awesome. did i not already mention she's like my twin? Sort of sad she's not even from my college. ><; She's TRiligual (sp?). English, Japanese, and Korean are her languages and since she has a KSSN, she can help me buy stuff from korean websites :D woots! She's very funny, caring, and an amazing artist! (: I love her even though it is sometimes annoying when she gives out random outbursts when we're both having our studying time. Like.. *reading... deeply concentrated...* *very very concentrated* and then, i hear an "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" Each time, i would turn around and look at what's wrong in case a fly flew in her mouth (and she's choking on it?) or a ninja came in and threw some ninja stars but i would only find her arms in the air, mouth wide opened, and stretching. dang. lol. She was one of the only people who got me a present on the day of my birthday this year. In fact, she's the one who gave me the biggest present on my birthday (: I really appreciated it. She gave me a pencil pouch, very cute mechanical pencils (morning glory style), a little card like paper handmade, and a little sheet of stickers. The other person who gave me something on that very day was my suitemate Kelsey. She gave me a delicious slice of cheesecake that she got from the dining hall which was probably one of the most expensive pieces. And of course, thanks to all the people who greeted me! (: <3
By the way, this is my procrastination time (: i dont want to do chem! AHHH. (by the way, i dont think my blogs will talk much about tests and academics. i tend to forget what happens when i'm not in class. LOL)
What else was i going to mention? Oh yeah. Cindy gave me a little 'surprise' on friday to celebrate my birthday (: Thanks!! <3>
Saturday. I slept in. Actually. Saturday is the only day i can sleep in from now on. That's because for Sunday, I have to wake up very early... like.. 7:30 for work. Yes, i work. I work at Plaza Cafe which is the dining hall for Revelle College. It is actually right across from my Residence Hall. Therefore, all i have to do is go down the 8 flights of mini stairs (i'm on the fourth floor) and walk straight across to reach the dining hall. This process takes about.. 1 minute. Anywho's i'll explain my job in more detail when i get to Sunday. Back to saturday. I slept in and then i did practically nothing productive. I was supposed to study but after i went.. i forgot where i went back into my dorm and slept for another few hours until almost 7PM which was when i panicked. I had a bonfire to go to at 7PM! I quickly got up and gout out of bed suddenly realizing Suzy brought over a friend. (A genius who passed 14+ AP tests with all 5's and did so many things.. it's unimaginable.) I said my hello and changed in the bathroom and ran off to the HKSU (: I like this club because everyone's so asian... not only like.. asian... but fobby asian. (: Like.. Hong Kong asian (: it's cute. (: Oh and the people are nice :D *i shall look for a picture* * i can imagine chantal squinting to find someone cute right now.*
Sooo.. after the bonfire, the people went to this kareoke thing. i felt like a retard and wish i hadnt quit learning chinese. AHAHHA. i think you can imagine what happened. xD So it was like... those uhh... HK kareoke places... with drinking, gambling (for fun), and smoking taking place. oh dang. smoke. x_X; that was horrible. I heard people went back at VERY VERY late... but i went back to the dorms at around 1am with some other freshies (:
SUNDAY. yeah that's today (: I woke up.. almost late for work but i got there at 8:01 AM (: ahahaha. Well this is basically what i do every time i work (every sunday from 8am-1:30 pm) cut a box of lettuce (contains 24 balls of lettuce and makes about 2-4 bins of lettuce), make a dozen (& sometimes more) pb&j sandwiches, make fruit cups (sometimes), make other random sandwiches (usually adds up to about another 30-45 sandwiches/subs), take a 15-20 minute break with my free meal, and whatever i can do while i'm in the Cold Pro/Deli little section. Yeah, i'm on my feet the whole time (except for break) and its hard to believe that they use the same two knives for everything (of course, they wash it). Everything includes chopping the vegetables, cutting the sandwiches in half, AND cutting paper boxes open. I use gloves and sometimes i dont. When i dont... i wash my hands so many times during my shift that i see cracks on my hands now. Mommy, i feel your pain. Nonetheless, the people there are friendly (: They WILL answer your questions and they DO care about you. The lady i work with, Nafia, has given me treats while i'm on my shifts even though i am reluctant to receive those treats. (:
As you can see, i'm having a good time here in college. I'm not really homesick yet and i love dorm visiting (: I've met so many people that way ^^
Next quarter goal;; Drop Chem Honors (pointless anyways?), Rho Delta Chi.
U...C...L...A... UCLA, U-C-I-HATE!
cindy was absolutely right when she jumped to conclusions about the indigenous LA-ers. knowing nothing but this city their entire lives, kelly and oanh seem to never have learned the value of self-sufficiency when it comes to household tasks such as grocery shopping, vacuuming, ironing, and doing laundry. maybe if kelly were sober for a week, she'd learn to clean up the landfill growing ever-more repugnant each day. her side of the room embodies a nightmare likely to be plaguing someone like monica gellar from "friends". tissues soaked with snot, or possibly other sticky nasty bodily fluids, dirty socks and bras, half-eaten cheetos wrappers, paper upon bag upon folder upon shoes haphazardly scattered on the floor, hair everywhere, even in our microfridge, and consistently emerging dumps of materials i don't even care to visually sort through, much less get my hands anywhere near - this mess doesn't even begin to characterize the clutter of useless "knowledge" in her mind. the slob stays out until 3 am, sleeps in until 3 pm the following afternoon, and though she says, "i love dresses! they're my favorite...activity!" (have you ever seen the family guy episodes with brian's gf jillian? kelly is the guy version of her) she acts and looks more like a guy half the time than a lot of the blonde surfer dudes around here who hang out with the far too numerous valley girls and even manage to speak in the same way ("like...like..like..."). dave can't even recognize that she's a girl when he sees her back in the chair behind me because she doesn't own one piece of clothing that isn't more akin to guys' clothing or a rag meant to hide her fat.
thank goodness ms. prissy spoiled oanh claimed the bottom bunk as her own when she moved in first, because now she gets to pay for it. while trying to catch a nap one day after an exhausting week of stressing over essays, kelly came in giving a tour of her room (that space of hers is nothing to be proud of), failed to see me sleeping on my top bunk because she's that ignorant, and when a friend asked if he could sit on oanh's bed, kelly casually replied, "oh sure, i've done way worse stuff on that bed anyway." HA! that's what you get, oanh. now i'm positive that one time kelly was oddly thoughtful enough to make oanh's bed for her, claiming a friend messed it up by sitting on it, involved a lot more than just sitting.
as horrible as it is sharing a room with a hardcore party asian oblivious to her own self-destruction, my expression turns into one of even more disappointment when oanh comes back with another haughty remark about how she's "reminding" us to do things her way. here's a good rule of thumb that any college student with the least amount of common sense should know, but apparently she refuses to believe: if you interrupt something you'd rather not see or hear, the courteous thing to do in the best interest of both yourself and the busy party is LEAVE! or at the very least give people 5 measly seconds to accommodate your selfish needs. if one does not feel comfortable in the presence of someone being there, or something going on, then that individual, who lives a mere 30 minutes away from campus (why is she even dorming, in that case?) ought to take advantage of that convenience and give the person whose only other private area is 300 miles and a $200 round-trip plane fare away the opportunity to enjoy what little time she gets to spend with the love of her life without having to cater to the needs of a roommate clearly in denial about the significance of having a significant other visit for a weekend.
after being respectfully given nearly 2 weeks' notice beforehand, and a subtle message about "not wanting to bother her" which should be loud and clear to an 18-year-old, she still does not respect the fact that i don't have the luxury of being with people i care about every other weekend. either attending a secular all-girls school has turned her into a repressed lesbian with no fashion sense, nothing to offer personality-wise, and no consciousness of a heterosexual relationship, or she's so prudish (strange for someone who isn't religious) that she's practically asexual.
well there's my overview of the japanese girl who should have been born a dumb blonde, and the old hag trapped in a college girl's body. now, on to other matters....
no, i won't be returning home for thanksgiving or any time prior to winter break. i know, it sounds pitiful, but i'm much happier not having to spend time with my family. all i need is dave. sure, it would be great to be back in the intelligent half of the state, but seeing as my parents are making no plans for me to return, and i would have to use my money to pay for any expenses, spending a few days here having the room to myself (with any luck the other two will take that hour-or-less by car journey back to their own homes) would be blissful enough. i'm already dreading how halloween weekend will go because that saturday marks the 11 month anniversary of dave and me. if i am not allowed any special moments to celebrate that, i will be one very pissed off girl. as you can see from my rant already, i'm fast reaching a breaking point of tolerance.
i'd give a description of how classes have been so far, and the rest of my experiences here, but i'm out of time and need to rush out to whole foods while i still have the chance to avoid seeing anyone else i have to interact with. i'm probably considered a loner at this school, but for good reason - the old saying "no company is better than bad company." i won't be corrupted simply for lack of anyone reputable to spend my precious time with. so once again, i hope this blog brightened your day *cough*chantal*cough*, or at least made you more grateful that you don't attend ucla.
till next time,
Juli

Hey all!
It's alright. Some classes everybody is to themselves and it's hard to talk to them and others they're all cool (like this one guy that looks just like Napoleon Dynamite in my Anthro discussion!) I do miss high school though, like actually knowing everybody there, here it's like I'm a little fish in a big pond. And then there's the big fridge at home that actually has a freezer! I miss that too =( My fridge has... milk and a piece of bread in it currently, and I just bought some yucky vinegar and sea salt kettle chips that I thought I'd try but I don't like them, so now I'm hungry -.- Drinking hot chocolate though, even though it's really hot here right now. But yeah, the only good thing about Berkeley to me is the weight room whoohoo, workout everyday now! Except they got rid of the small pullup bar so now I can't do pullups... I wish I lived in the units instead of in the all girls' dorm, I think my experience of Berkeley would be very different...
02 will you be going trick-or-treating this year?
It's going to be hard to trick-or-treat in dorms (but if I can mooch free candy from other rooms I will haha)? I'm definitely going to the halloween dance and the haunted house that Bowles' (the all guys' dorm) is holding. I hear it's really scary, and kids from all over Berkeley come every year to see it =) All I know is it starts off in their elevator which is one of those old creepy ones where the doors open and then you have to open the gate around it.... If any of you guys want to come over on Halloween let me know =)
03 who's coming back for thanksgiving (for those who are away)?
Well it's not too hard for me to come back, and I like coming home =) So yeah, I'm definitely coming back.
04 soo... what's new?
My roommate's friend is so funny. I was in the bathroom ready to take my shower and I guess my roommate was taking one too because her friend comes rushing in going "Rujiaaa are you in here?" "Yeah?" Then she peeks into a curtain and goes "I got you a bananaaa =)" Well, I thought it was funny =)
Oh, and girls are so not cleaner than boys when it comes to the bathroom. Some girl clogs up the sink (I've seen her -.- she like doesn't use the showers, she washes her hair and EVERYTHING in the sink -.-) and then since she's not done washing herself she moves onto the next one. She clogged 4 out of 5 sinks (I was using the last one so she couldn't clog it) and then left -.- And tampons on the floor, GROSS >.<
Let's see, anything else new... Jason Mraz is playing in the Greek Theatre sometime in November if anyone is a fan of his? Just letting you guys know =)
I've had my share of bad food experiences here and would like to suggest some things you guys should never try if you happen to come across it and think it's interesting:
- Pumpkin Protein Odwalla Drink: it tastes like drinking a bottle of cinnamon
- Pumpkin Ravioli: tastes like mush-filled cinnamon flavored ravioli
- Sea Salt and Vinegar Kettle Chips: like eating a vinegar chip? lol indescribable
- Vegetarian bowl w/rice: The ones that they make at Berkeley are pretty disgusting
- Philadelphia (or New York) sushi: I thought the white stuff was tofu but nope, it's a hunk of cream cheese! Yuckyyy!
- Low fat organic hummus (forgot brand): Normally I love hummus, but this one tasted like... burnt beans? It had a strange flavor to it... regardless I was hungry so I finished it off.
- Key Lime Yogurt: Quite adventurous for me, I normally stick with strawberry but I wanted to spice things up haha. Didn't work out.
- Carrots and peanut butter: It was ok, but I wouldn't recommend wasting peanut butter on some carrots.
- Potato chips and melted chocolate: Just the combination sounds gross, but some girls said it was good so I tried it... I don't know what they were thinking.
Well that's all I have for now, I have a 7 page paper to write so I'll post more stuff when it happens. =)

(:
today's turning out to be better than expected =D for some weird reason i woke up at like.. 7:30.. and had a hard time going back to sleep. i was like.. HELL NO i'm not studying now with only 4 hours of sleep haha esp with 5 hours the night before. but onto questions of the month! =D
01 how do you like your college?
i am LOVING uop (: i love the people here, i love the environment --it's not too competitive or too relaxed, the weather's been a bit weird lately though ahaha OMG the leaves are actually changing colors and falling! lmao they're so beautiful sometimes (: and last night.. my roommate, a few of our neighbors & i were just super hyper at like.. 1am. lol we were being relatively loud and everything but it was superrrrr fun (: haha i loveee my corner of the hall x] we all kind of know each other and yah x] except for my other neighbor.. they're rarely in their room.. or they just have their room closed at all times? O.o who knows. but college = love. so far (: i am close to my second rounds of midterms (why do they call it midterms? why not just regular tests? lol doesn't sound as scary!) already. and i'm a bit worried. =/ i should like.. force myself to go to the library to study over the weekend or something.... i hope everyone's school's going well for them =D
02 will you be going trick-or-treating this year?
i really want to go trick-or-treating with chantal in daly city! but i dont know when i'll get back =/ maybe i'll go around the halls on the 30th and trick-or-treat x] haha my school's hosting this event called "safe trick-or-treating" for little kids to come around the campus to visit the campus & to trick or treat at various halls. i cant wait to decorate the halls of my floor! (: lol and and on the same night, my hall community (my hall and another hall) is having a dance at the basement of my hall! haha it'll be interesting (: so i'm definitely looking forward to halloween time! and i can finally decorate my nails with the new orange nail polish i bought! =DD gonna paint them like tiger strips =) haha school pride.. lmao!
03 who's coming back for thanksgiving (for those who are away)?
MEEEEE~ lol i cant wait till thanksgiving either! (: we get wed-sun off! =D and on tuesday, i only have one class from 1-3! soooooo excited!! hahahah and hmm... should we do something over thanksgiving or just winter break? but i seriously cant wait for a break! haha
04 soo... what's new? (:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6TuWQGHeqI i still cant listen to that song without tearing up =X everything feels surreal right now... i'll blog later on about it... maybe ;]

OCTOBERRR (:
I have much to say but i will save a majority of that for either thanksgiving or winter break (or a latter blog entry).
For now, i will answer the october questions! (:
(have you guys forgotten about this site?)
01 how do you like your college?
Wow, i LOVE my college. I feel like this IS where i belong. It's amazing how many people you meet and how much you learn aside from classes. I like revelle college in UCSD too because of... NICE DORMS (: xDD I also find it nice that i'm not in a suite of partiers. (: None of them really party but they're soooo lucky they are able to go home whenever they want because a majority of them live only 2 hours away from here!
02 will you be going trick-or-treating this year?
Possibly, unless there's a Halloween party for one of the clubs :D I'll be trickortreating dorm-to-dorm/suite-to-suite. (; I envy Cindy (who still has yet to join this blog) because she is going back for Halloween!
03 who's coming back for thanksgiving (for those who are away)?
I'm coming back for thanksgiving (: My four day weekend already 3/4s tackled. I'm going to be back at night of the 26th, going to the ortho on the 29th, hanging out with tadd on the 27th or 28th, family dinner on one of those days, so i only have one day opened left! =O i'm leaving on the 30th though at around 4pm. >< booooo~
04 soo... what's new? (:
Like... So much. Lol So much to do here. Joined a club, rushed a sorority, going for WINTER GUARD :D :D :D, might join a frat next quarter? (: , met so many new people, have had to shoo people with food. yeah. so much (:

Yeeee.
Answers to the questions (in the comments) from previous post.
lol xDD ummmmmmmmucsd's pretty fun xDD
ummmmmm yeah cuz it was too late and i was too lazy/tired to walk back to my dorm.
The guy and girl were in my friend's dormroom which i was in at that time, it was implied that they were doing their 'business' because they were cuddling under teh sheets and i dont wanna know anymore. They went out into the suite room to finish their business so i guess that's why. Oh and i was also told that, that was happening... so yeah. *shrug*
I think college is very fun xD A lot of freedom and i like going to places with friends and what not for dinner and just out to places. (: it's a new experience and.. i guess i'm just liking it because it's new and stuff.
I see all these people riding on weird traveling devices. xDD I saw this really weird bike and really small skateboard already. o_O It's like..wha?
Also, FIRST DAY OF WORK! woooo!;; and i cut my finger. but just the outer layer of the skin. x)
LOL
yeah; it was a new experience. x) hmmm it took me forever to get in the building though because when i started working, the building wasnt opened yet. ><;
Now, i'll never look at cafeteria food the same way as i have . lol
man, tonight when i ate dinner... i was seriously looking at almost everything with disgust. xD
Hmmm that's basically it for today. Class tomorrowww~ Study time (:

Welcome to UCLA
firstly on a more personal note, i hella miss dave (that's for him; although i barely say hella even in the bay, i'm working on being more nor-cal-ish to avoid being sucked into the world of "like yeah, like totally and like like..like"). from that mini breakdown i had at LAX where i couldn't stop crying in his arms and wiping my tears on his shirt, up until now, the 3rd full day i've spent half a state away from him, i haven't been able to fully enjoy myself. he was the only person to accompany me to UCLA for these first couple days, and he's done everything possible to make me feel safe and comfortable, including accompanying me on the plane, renting a car and tackling the infamous LA freeways to drive me around to stores to buy room supplies, helping set up my area of the room with his personalized feng-shui, and giving me materials he used in ucm but has no need for now such as the tv i'm sure my roommates will appreciate. more than all the counselors, teachers, and friends who have counseled me on how to handle the move to college, no one has prepared me more than he has, except i could never be ready for him to leave. i know to some people it seems pathetic that my life revolves almost entirely around one person, but for the last 9 months i would not have been able to survive without him, so i don't feel guilty for not much enjoying the sunny carefree lifestyle epitomized in socal. regarding true importance and happiness, i may be living in LA, but my world will always be wherever Dave is.
as expected, i'm dorming in a triple room with two LA natives. i've maybe seen two other people not from the southern CA area so far and i don't really expect to find more. the first roommate i met, oanh, pronounced wan because she's full chinese like me, is pretty easy to get along with and is awesome for helping me with the initial confusion of moving in. surprisingly, our room and the ones across the hall and next to ours are occupied by almost all asian girls. i swear sunset village courtside c3 is the asian residential space. even the court is flanked by tall bamboo. i came here to get away from a school comprised of chinese, filipino, and almost nothing else, but the diversity here is not much better in most places. yes, there are white people in every direction. white girls showing off thighs that obviously need toning, tall white guys that reek of whiteness, and language that makes you wonder how these people got into college, much less one as prestigious as this. at the welcoming presentations, speakers constantly refer to statistics that rank UCLA as having received the most applications out of any university in the country. for an institution with excellent screening standards, i never thought i'd be begging to leave a house meeting where all my housemates are raving about wanting to attend hannah montana's birthday in disneyland. college student and hannah montana don't mix in my mind. i know i'm a fan of cute things and pink, but a whole section slathered with hello kitty and sparkly girly designs in the student union store is even too much for me.
my other roommate, on the other hand, is a prime example of the darker side of college, namely parties, drinking, promiscuity, and anything else ill-advised and/or illegal. kelly, an extremely white-washed japanese girl like every other asian girl around here who grew up with money but likes to pretend she knows what asian parents are like, has come stumbling into the room past 2 AM on two nights just this week. the first time, oanh and i were awakened by two guys she brought back with her who were banging on the door because her key wouldn't work. then after letting the guys disrupt our valuable sleep, she slept in their room that night. we've also had to let her in at least 3 times because she keeps losing and forgetting her keys and other belongings at different buildings during her nightly partying. i didn't want to believe she was that kind of girl, but her behavior has proved dave's suspicions that she's not the type of person i should be associating myself with. this morning she was explaining to me how she got completely wasted last night, before another guy came to get her for lunch and probably another long day and night of getting it on with frat boys. who knows (i bet she doesn't even) how many guys she has already had drunk sex with. she is the reason i definitely don't want to rush the sororities. the only good thing about her disregard for her own safety and for our comfort is that oanh and i can disregard her living situation in our room since kelly is barely ever here. i would prefer a double room, and in a way i have one now. compared to every other room i've seen, i am the compulsively neat one in the building. thanks to dave for that.
the house isn't all bad though, even though there's a contest of which room can keep their door open the most to let people in and be social (like that's not an invitation to get raped, and not even an effective way to bring people together because you can meet many more people being out and about than staying in a room). the coolest thing i've witnessed so far at any house get-together is the excitement that arises when we proudly discuss ways to show our love for C3. It seems our mascot is C3P0 (if you don't know who that is, then wow, even all these socal losers are fans of goldenrod and his beeping companion). to see star wars fans down here makes me feel a little better because it reminds me even more of my wonderful nerdy boyfriend, whose lucky shirt reads "the force is strong in this one."
the norcal/socal rivalry takes a completely different twist when you see what each is like more in-depth. one programming assistant for our housing department even states that he is anti-hella on his posted description. so far, i hope norcal wins. sure, in norcal one must deal with the crime sprees of oakland, the ghetto "language" of inner city high schools, the ever-expanding population of fobs, and the anti-fashion trends of baggy pants, apple bottom jeans on girls with so much bottom that they shove others out of the way, oversized white t-shirts, puffy jackets, and hair product gone greasy, but in socal it's the same, just at the opposite end of the spectrum with people who act open to different types of people but try to impose their own beliefs of having fun at all costs onto everyone they meet. and gosh, do they try too hard to meet people. i prefer having a few close confidantes than knowing the faces and maybe names of hundreds of people but nothing else about them. i'm bombarded with shocked expressions implying there's something seriously wrong with me when i tell people i feel more like staying in to relax and chat with my bf than going out to engage in house sports and games or parties until the early hours of morning.
i've met one other girl in a long-term relationship, but she confuses me. after having been with someone for 15 months, shouldn't you be able to accurately tell someone how many years older your boyfriend is than you without being very unsure? also, i'm a private person when i watch tv, meaning i'll gladly have company while i watch, but if it's a show i'm obsessed with such as heroes, shut up or get out. of course i can't say such harsh things to people, but there is never a moment of quiet when i need it. i can't concentrate on thinking about complex plot details of an episode i haven't even seen yet when i hear talking and noise in the background from the room, the hall, upstairs, downstairs, and even outside. at the moment, i'm more annoyed with my living situation than anything.
i came all the way here to escape a cacophony of sounds and repulsive mixture of smells in my own house, but now i'm stuck in the same scenario, only instead of being surrounded by asians who do ever asian thing i hate all the time, i'm surrounded by fake asians. i can't decide which i hate more. people call me white-washed, but meet any of my housemates and they'll think differently.
outside of campus, shopping here is a breeze. thank goodness there's a whole foods within walking distance. it is vegan heaven. anything animal and eco-friendly, organic, and healthy, i can buy there. well, it's more like rich vegan heaven, but with way to cook and no dave to cook for me, i'll take what i can get. vegan vitamins, gummy bunny-shaped snacks, cheese, meats, and more and more and more are plentiful. oanh is a vegetarian, making eating out and grocery shopping much easier. westwood village contains a plethora of great stores for almost anything, such as coffee at your choice of several different franchises, scrumptious vegan delights at the native foods cafe, basic drugstore supplies at cvs or rite-aid, and random shops for so much more. small theaters, bookstores, an urban outfitters, a bebe store, and probably more locations i haven't even had the time to explore yet make up the great westwood village. on a side note, i find it pretty ironic and funny that the frat houses are all lined up on gayley street. i haven't even seen the mansion-like sorority houses, but i don't plan on ever trying.
this doesn't even begin to cover half the array of things i've experienced since leaving for college, but i'm sure none of us busy students have the time and energy to be that thorough. for now, i'll leave it at that and hope you guys come to visit me at UCLA, where i'll be able to give you a better idea of this strange place i suddenly finding myself wanting to both stay and leave.
thanks for reading,
Juli
