Seldom Neglect to Bemoan Your Great Troubles

So I've been meaning to study for my first midterm for my first (last?) history class at UCSD, but I also have been meaning to blog. We can all tell what came first, right?

Well, let's begin. Apparently, it's been two and a half months since I last blogged.. It's been too long!! I think it takes me such effort to finally blog because I have much on my mind that I want to blog about, so I only want to blog whenever I have the most time to myself.. but, the time when I have the least things to do is (of course) when I'm going to study for a midterm! That's when my "procrastination" kicks in. It's funny, the only time I procrastinate is when I have time to procrastinate. I mean, when I have the whole day to myself because I've cleared all homework aside to study for something like a midterm on the following day, I do everything that I otherwise would not do had I not had the time to do! Today, for example, after coming home from my morning classes, I noticed we had no milk (to make my awesome lattes...) or bread (to make my awesome sandwiches!!), so I got on the shuttle and went to my local safeway/vons. Speaking of which, I finally saw Aaron last monday! I was on my way from the Applied Physics and Mathematics building to the shuttle (with my earphones on to look cool [lol]) when I saw him! I don't think he recognized me at first because I have a different haircut (blogged about later), but after saying (yelling?) "Aaron" and talking a bit he remembered who I was [lol]. Uhh... where was I? AH! So, I went to that store, bought milk, cereal, peanut butter and chips and salsa (for our friday movie night! Oh... wait.. hmm, not this friday, because this friday we're [roomies] actually going to the movie theatres [as opposed to friday movie night where we watch a movie {it was going to be psycho} on my laptop using my awesome ipod speakers {lol}] to watch Wolverine, Obsessed [hopefully! It's Beyonce!! C'mon!! We MUST watch it!!] and maybe that star trek movie [but hopefully not.. not because I'm not a fan {I'm not} but because.. I don't want to watch it =)], so I guess we'll move it to saturday) and walked back home. Umm.. Oh yea, so anyway, I got home and loaded the washing machine and started to wash the dishes. It's weird, back when we only had 4 cups and 4 plates, our sink would remain fairly empty, and we would all lend a hand in washing the dishes.. But, now that we have over 20 cups and over 20 small plates, big plates, bowls, pots and pans, our sink can fill up quickly! The worst part is that because it fills up so quickly, if no one takes immediate initiative and washes the dishes, then the dishes just slowly pile up even more. Also, the more the dishes pile up, the less someone wants to wash all those dishes. Last week or so, it finally got so bad that we were drinking from one cup that we kept re-washing over and over. One of my roommates (the one with the car) decided to buy the dishwashing pellet things and use the dishwasher for the first time. Slowly, the pile of dishes in the sink vanished. Well anyway, I washed the dishes and put in a second load of laundry, then started to tidy up my room. [SHOOT!! I got so scared! Firefox slowed down way too much at this point and then said "Firefox has stopped working, check online for a solution and close, etc" and I got so dissapointed! "Noooooooooooo!!! I wrote so much!! Heck no am I rewriting everything!" lol. Thankfully, I opened IE and clicked the edit posts option and my draft was there, complete with everything I just wrote. Thank.. Technology! Now, where was I? lol]. I went to school, got a cup of iced mocha, and headed for my afternoon class. After that I rushed home (gearing up to study of course), and began to fold my clothes. Then I took an awesome shower with my music full blast (I was home alone — a rare, yet much appreciated time). Then I got on my laptop and well, here I am! Amazing right? Yea, I know, Study!!

So what's new in life? Well, some of you may already now this, but I haven't stopped running since I've been down here. And this past sunday, there was a half marathon and a 5K, and guess who ran the 5K? Me. And guess who was finished 8th place behind 7 thirty-something-year-olds? Me. And guess who finished 1st in his age division? ME! And guess who got this awesome 1st place medal? ME!! And guess who got this awesome 1st place trophy? The guy who got 1st place overall. But guess who got $1000?! The guy who got 1st place for the half-marathon. LOL. But yea, I was so happy! So happy, that me and my roommate decided to cut each others hair. Lol (should I post a picture? Eh, I'll just send one to whoever wants to see it =)). Then that sunday night, my roommate fell ill (I was mildly sick, so I probably passed it to him), so I ran to safeway/vons (with my blistered feet), bought tylenol, and then ran to subway (they close at 11 and it was 10:56, when I got there! Yes!) to grab him something to eat. The day after, though, I fell horribly ill. I couldn't even walk right (probably due to my hurting feet, but still)! It's really depressing getting sick when you are 500 miles away from your family
=( . Thank goodness I've become best friends with my roommate. He was able to take care of me the same way I would take care of any of you — clumsily and under-par (lol, jk jk). I still feel a bit sick, but I'm much better.

So, I think that's all I have to blog about for now — actually I've got some more. My roommate, Justin, and I bought this awesome sofa (and cool sculpture)! The last saturday of my spring break, we went to a garage sale at 8 in the morning. It was for this huge house in a rich neighborhood. All the things were very pricey: $1300 cabinets, $800 vases, $700 rugs, etc. But, there was this one black, high quality L-shaped sofa... for $100. We looked at each other and said "F— yea!" It was a 9 by 7 foot sofa, and the reason it was so cheap was because it had cat scratches on one of the corners. We told the madam in charge that we would take it, and hastily she said "Actually, I didn't think it would have so many cat scratches.. I'm sorry for that, I'll bring it down to $75" ("F— YEA!!"). As we continued walking, we saw the art room (again, pricey stuff), but the pieces that had no names were less expensive. We saw this one sculpture of three faces in a plastic box hanging on the wall, and the price? $100. When we showed interest in it, she said, "well that's $75 [she didn't realize it was actually tagged as $100], and since you're also buying the sofa, I'll bring it down to $50". Again, we tried our best to contain our explosive excitement: "Umm.... Okay, that is nice, we will take it". We bought the two items and sunday we rented a U-Haul truck and a driver, and picked up the sofa and brought it to our apartment. Needless to say, we had a LOT of trouble bringing the L-shaped sofa (heavy, too) up three flights of stairs and into our apartment. After all that hard work, we finally relaxed and played around on our sofa. It's so nice and soft and huge! Best investment ever (lol)! Oh and we checked the name of the man who created the sculpture (it was faint and on the side) online, and he is apparently very popular here in SoCal. Yup. =)

Oh, also, my roommate Justin and I bought roller blades a couple weeks ago. Our idea in the beginning was to roller blade from class to class, being that most transportation options students here have are either skateboards, bicycles, or ... walking. So, we have been practicing on the roof of our garage nearly every other other night, usually from 10-12am. Once we got better, we began to roller blade down all the levels of the garage, where I was forced to learn how to turn (and later forced to learn how to turn without falling). One day about two weeks ago, we finally gained enough confidence to roller blade to our local safeway/vons (confidence in our abilities, not our appearance). Unfortunately, we didn't start out right. At the ground floor of our garage (we roller bladed from the roof to the ground floor) there are gates, which open by moving to the side on wheels. Unfortunately, we never noticed that the wheels of the gates actually roll on a thin rail, as opposed to a flat surface, and, just like the rail near the first lane on the track during track meets where people trip over as they cross the track, we tripped over that gate rail. We spun around in the air so many times. It looked really cool, but the pain was a beach. We eventually got up (as a car was approaching, ready to run us over) and began our trek to the store. It was an experience we've yet to replicate to any extent. One day, though, we'll go again.

Okay, it's really time for me to study for my History of Latin America in the 20th Century midterm.. Because I gotta study!! Haha, yup. Let's keep this blog alive!! And I'm sorry I wrote so much! Hopefully you decide to read my post bit by bit, day by day, as I'm sure it's as boring as I believe it to be. =)

Goodluck to everyone with classes!!
